VENTRILOQUIST POSITION. (training for beginners)

When you are with your stage Ventriloquist character, you might decide to stand up or sit in a chair 🪑 or barstool or sit your Ventriloquist character on a Ventriloquist figure customize sitting stand or put your foot on a foot stool then have your character sit on your knee or your character sit on your left arm while you stand. 
Ventriloquist slight of hand.. magicians use slight of hand in some magic tricks, a Ventriloquist also use slight of hand in the Ventriloquist position. If possible try not to let your arm be seen by the audience sticking out of the back of your Ventriloquist character, we want to create the illusion of life and what's the point of the illusion if your figure is just an object. position yourself close enough where you can seem to hold your friend so that they do not fall, make it seem like you're holding the back of the figure shirt instead of your arm is being inside the figure back. Your arm doesn't need to move, your fingers and your wrist is what does most of the work when manipulating and animating the Ventriloquist figure. This can be done with a sock puppet by having your little helper sit on a stack of books or have your character stand behind something or sit your little helper on top of the palm of your other hand as if it was a chair. the true level of your position is your character and you eye to eye  or face to face, when you and your character are at eye to eye level it's like a picture frame for the audience watching. don't have your character sitting too low where you need to look down or too high up where you need to look up at the character, face to face or eye to eye with each other is a good position for you and the audience or the person viewing you and your character. remember not to jerk your Ventriloquist character head when you turn it left to right or up and down, easily handle the movement of turning the figure head or even  the body movement of your character, by doing this you prevent your arm movement helping you with the ventriloquist slight of hand... choose a ventriloquist position that is comfortable for you or covenant for your Ventriloquist character.
