the cat in the box is a easy illusion, it's a voice illusion, it's a voice magic trick.

to create this illusion you don't say meow like you would for a cat, you say the word oew in a high pitch voice at a very low volume, hold a empty box in your hand or sit the empty box on a table,ect,the shoe box has a top on it or is closed.. hold the box in front of a person about two feet away from you,tell the person you have a cat inside the box and to listen very carefully, then you say the word oew! oew! oew! in a high pitch voice at a low volume, then take the top off the box or open the box to show that the box is empty... another word to use instead of oew say the word "yoew" the letter Y seems to carry the sound as the cat was opening it's mouth wide.. practice before performing it in front of an audience..listen to a real cat to understand what a real meow sounds like... when practicing this voice illusion look at the box and try to get the exact tone of the sound of the cat meow, as you practice on the tone of the cat meow, the illusion will come to life and you will create the illusion of the cat in the box... don't get frustrated, it's just like a singer looking for the tone of a singing note, a pitch or a range, and when you get the cat meow at the right sound level in your vocal cords,the illusion of a cat in a empty box will be magical.
the cat in the box illusion is not throwing your voice, it is getting the perfect tone of imitation of a kitten. yes you do need to be a Ventriloquist because lip control is involved but basically it's getting the tone just right.
