THE TALENT SHOW. (for amateur Ventriloquists )
well, well, well, so you want to enter a talent show. as a amateur Ventriloquist you should consider talent shows your playground. If you really think about it the talent shows are childs play for the art of ventriloquism... When you enter a talent show be sure you advertise that you are appearing in a talent show, no matter how many times you have entered a talent show use it for your advantage, don't worry about winning the talent show contest, it's all about showing off your skills, even if it's your first time on stage. remember that you are a singer and the singers in the talent show can not compete with you, remember that you are the comedy team that the joke teller can not out wit, remember that you are the dancer that the dancers can not out dance, and what about the magician well you have many tricks up your sleeve too!
What ever the Ventriloquist act is that you choose to use in the talent show it is not to win the competition it is to wow the audience, the audience is your goal to win for future birthday parties and wedding and family holidays, don't forget as a amateur Ventriloquist you are a nonprofit business person, a talent show is strictly business to promote your Ventriloquist act. Practice practice practice and rehearsal time is a must when you are preparing for a talent show because it's not the judges of the talent show that you want to impress it's the people sitting in the audience that might have you entertain at their parties.
As a beginner Ventriloquist that would like to advance to the amateur status level, I can whisper in your ear that you can experiment with the talent shows only if you invite lots and lots of family and friends, inviting family and friends will keep you in the beginner Ventriloquist level while dipping your toe into the amateur level, you will be among strangers and family with friends, the beginner level is not for performing but can experiment with performing..if a beginner move into the amateur level then the talent shows will be a good place to start.
Amateur night can be a great career for a amateur Ventriloquist, there's so many opportunities such as open mic night, television talent shows, and talent shows. As they say in show business keep your ear to the ground...most talent shows are auditions auditions and auditions and waiting and waiting but that's show business! What is a audition, a audition in show business is a job interview, you mean I need a job interview for a talent show? Yes and no, some talent shows entertainers are competing for cash and prizes and some are actually going to move forward to a bigger and better show business level..yes some talent shows have auditions and some do not but I mostly had to audition for the amateur talent shows and a few I did not and I also entered a talent show where the director put me on as the next year talent show host and Sammy as the master of ceremony m.c. the talent show was filmed on local cable television, a small city television broadcast, I watched Sammy and I hosting that talent show thousands of times because the director gave me a copy of the video tape, how cool π is that!
When you audition for a talent show be ready to go when you receive the call because the spot they have for you is your spot and you can loose your spot if you are not ready to go..I tell you the truth I was always ready to go after I audition, and when I got the call, wow!.. sometimes I would get a call to audition a couple of times and that meant I had a competitor competing for the same spot so I had to step up my game but I am not bragging π, I always got the spot that I audition for.. there's a song that all Ventriloquists should sing to the competition and the song is called I can do it better, it's a old classic song.. look at what Ventriloquist terry fator did to the competition on the talent show America got talent, many Ventriloquists win beauty pageants so yes anything the competition can do us Ventriloquists can do it better now I am bragging.
If you are going to enter a talent show to win the cash and prizes then you are not there for business but for competitive reasons.. your competitive mind should be to show off your super powers, to demonstrate your Ventriloquism ability, you are a Ventriloquist today tomorrow and forever, win or not winning you are a artist showing your art. You may want to win the talent show but in this school the lessons are not on winning or not winning...it is fun to create and it is love in the artist that can create the "what if" for the world to see.
⭐ AUDITIONS ⭐
I audition for Fredrick k.c.price the pastor and founder of my church chrenshaw Christian center or some people called it the faith dome, it was just him and me in the church, he said "that is fascinating!" the church was having some kind of talent event, I didn't do my auditioning Ventriloquist act in the actual event show so after I was done performing on stage pastor Frederick k.c. price said to me "I thought you were going to do what you did in the audition" I had no answer at the time for that statement or question because both acts were clean church acts but the act in the audition was my Ventriloquist character Sammy was like the devil trying to get me to do bad things and I would quotes from Bible verses to Sammy my Ventriloquist character playing the role of the devil and the Ventriloquist act I performed at the event was a ventriloquist act full of church jokes to entertain the audience..so sometimes agents and managers or whoever you are auditioning for might think that what you do at the audition is what you do, and I have so many different Ventriloquist acts I nearly do the same one twice in a row..so maybe let your interviewer at your audition know that you have many different acts because I have been expected to repeat the audition act when I have already done it. When I win the spot at the audition I go to prepare a much better act for the audience so in essence I have two acts one for the audition and one for the audience and this has always been my way of my Ventriloquist career and yes sometimes agents and managers expect me to perform the audition act for the audience but if the agents says to me that is what they are looking for than that act is already prepared so the audition act is what the audience will see. I can still see Fredrick k.c.price face of that day of the event, I mean the jokes were clean church jokes, he seem like he wanted me to deliver a message to his church using the art of Ventriloquism as a entertainer, he didn't tell me what kind of content he was looking for or what kind of message he wanted me to deliver to the audience, if he would have said keep that act that's exactly what I want you to do on stage, I would have been cool with that no need to write a new act. So maybe ask the interviewer at the audition are they looking for something in particular... yes it's okay to ask questions at the audition before auditioning, some interviewers just let you audition and some are actually looking for something so if you get a nice interviewer they might just tell you exactly what they are looking for and sometimes they are just feeling spots so they are timing your act to see how long your act will be as a time filler... keep in mind auditions are mysterious sometimes you will audition for one spot and end up in another spot in another country... My advice is to enjoy yourself because like I said you might end up in a show in another country, why, because a audition doesn't end at the audition the interviewer keep you on file, there's always spots to be filled with entertainers so keep auditioning and keep entering talent shows.. keep a profile and a resume of your Ventriloquist career, because at the audition they will ask for it, such as photos and phone numbers and a short summary of your show business career so stay busy to build a nice show business profile. Some Ventriloquists can walk in and shut down the audition with out speaking a word, the interviewer wants that person, they have found what they are looking for.. sometimes the interviewers want the Ventriloquist with out the Ventriloquist character and I say it's your career not mind but never abandon what you "own" it's your work, it's your art, it's your style, it's your creation, don't sell your artwork to the devil πΏ for thirty pieces of πͺ silver..sure the interviewer will take you up to the highest mountain and promise you all the kingdoms of the world and I will come to whisper in your ear theses words we are artists of the "what if" not the interviewer.
sure I have been to auditions where the interviewers came up with many different ideas for my Ventriloquist act right there at the audition, things like my Ventriloquist character should be painted darker blacker with white lips, with the a name tag that says sambo, yes I was auditioning for a theater playwriting taking place during slavery time, I the Ventriloquist needed to speak with a deep voice with white paint on my face and my Ventriloquist character had to be pitch black with white lips that had a high voice like Disney Mickey mouse, "can you create a Ventriloquist character like that for us uh can you, it would be wonderful for the play" is what the Three interviewers keep asking me, I said yes I can create a Ventriloquist character like that, then they begin to write, and brain storm right there that very moment, other people were waiting outside the room to audition, so yes keep that in mind never sell your art for thirty pieces of silver.
