WARDROBE DEPARTMENT. (lesson for beginners Ventriloquist only)
let's learn about your clothes and your fashion of creativity. YES! fashion is part of the art of ventriloquism! in this little conversation we are going to talk about the Ventriloquist clothes and the Ventriloquist character clothes... to save time I use body doubles for my main Ventriloquist character name Sammy, what is a body double? a body double is not the original body of the Ventriloquial character it is a body that is already dressed for what ever the occasion may be such as dress in a Halloween π costume for a Halloween show then my main Ventriloquist character would just which bodies and on the way to the Halloween party we go! The Ventriloquist should most of the time dress in clothing as the business man or business woman this would be a suit and tie, or a long evening dress, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy wore a tuxedo. The Ventriloquist character could wear cute little outfits because the audience love that, when I was a night club entertainer women would adore my little Ventriloquist doll name Sammy, I would dress Sammy in cute little children clothing and the ladies in the audience treated Sammy like a living doll with gentle touches and hugs and kisses too! in those night clubs performances Sammy was a cute charming adorable little guy that sing songs and told jokes about his Ventriloquist, but then when Sammy became a comedy club entertainer the clothing changed and the jokes he said were brutal and the songs he sing was nasty of raunchy, that cuteness in the night clubs didn't work in the comedy club so please keep that in mind.
During my comedy club career Sammy and I dressed alike from head to toe for a short period of time during this time the look alike outfits gave us recognition with the comedy club audience so you might want to keep that in mind that people recognize a brand from other brands this means if you see a Ventriloquist act on stage wearing a tuxedo you will think it's Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy so in saying that your wardrobe department can also be your very own brand name, yes your name on your clothes is no different than Sean John or fubu name brand. remember you are a artist in the art of ventriloquism this means from the clothing that you wear to the words that you speak is art, if your Ventriloquist character always say yaba da ba doo! guess what yaba da ba doo! becomes a quote from the creation of you the artist so then your audience will recognize the art of your quotes in your speech and in your fashion statement.
Your Ventriloquist character can wear a Speedo on stage in front of a live audience, your Ventriloquist character choose not to sit like a lady in a mini skirt in front of a live audience is okay but you the Ventriloquist should always sit in a sitting properly way unless it's part of the Ventriloquial act. Keep in mind the Ventriloquist character can dress anyway that they wish, if the Ventriloquist character wants to wear their dirty underwear on the top of their head than so be it but you the Ventriloquist should not wear your dirty underwear on top of your head even if it is part of the Ventriloquist act there's some fashion statements that should not be, wait I must apologize I am sorry let me correct myself by saying if you the Ventriloquist wants to wear your dirty underwear on top of your head on stage in front of an audience go for it! it's your Ventriloquist career not mind, I continue... your Ventriloquist character has the license to do what ever they please to do in a imaginary world so the clothing that they wear can be cute, funny, cheap, expensive, rags, clean, dirty, old, new, too big, too small, suit, π dresses, mini skirt, yoga pants, bra and panties, robes, Halloween costume, baseball player uniforms, wearing one shoe, tuxedo, fireman uniform, military, priest, bear feet and on and on,..be creative, be thoughtful and let your imagination run wild when building your wardrobe department.
It's okay to have a open conversation about your Ventriloquist character fashion statement sometimes you can use it as a time filler.. a open conversation is unscripted, a open conversation is done in the raw, a open conversation is fresh, a open conversation about your Ventriloquist character clothes is improvisation. the Ventriloquist and the Ventriloquist character having a conversation about clothes is off the cuffs. In this conversation the Ventriloquist go from clothes to clothes with questions and opinions and surely the Ventriloquist character answers and responses are well waiting for because even the Ventriloquist doesn't know what they will be. this open conversation can also include audience participation where the audience can have a say in the conversation about the Ventriloquist character fashion statement so be sure you choose a conversation piece for your Ventriloquist character to wear. I also use the open conversation in a few shows I had Sammy dress in away a person would that didn't pay the light bill, so even though Sammy got dressed in the dark he still thought he was the new popular fashion kid on the block, the audience enjoyed the open conversation with laughter. as you the Ventriloquist go from hat to shoes conversating about the Ventriloquist character fashion clothing make sure that you have fun being unscripted.
a open conversation about your Ventriloquist character clothes can be a open introduction so please keep in your mind your wardrobe department is part of your Ventriloquist act.
