NOVELTY ACT? (for ventriloquist beginner)

As a beginner Ventriloquist you need to know what type of entertainment you're truly providing to your audiences...a ventriloquist act is a novelty act, make a note of novelty act to keep in your back pocket.

What is a novelty act? A novelty act is a performance different from every day performing such as dancers and singers and magician and comedians and actors/actress.. a novelty act are such acts as jugglers, a mime, a fire-eater, a plate spinner, and things of that nature...let me try to explain it this way people know what a fire eater act is but they probably never watch a fire eater show, people have maybe watched a juggler act but not often.

novelty acts are unusually acts, they are popular acts such as becoming a well known brand name, a novelty act is always new because it's different from the every day shows.. when show bookings are looking for something new or different a ventriloquist act would be at the top of the list...so don't get upset or sad or discouraged that you are not getting show bookings like the singers or actors. A singing act and actors are a dime a dozen, they're like water on earth, you can find them with out looking, your Ventriloquist act is not like water and a show booker would really need to search high and low to find a Ventriloquist act and let me say it should be that way because the art of ventriloquism is a ancient art so the dealing with it should be with effort.

Let's be honest here  being a Ventriloquist is a lifestyle for many entertainers, if you visit a  ventriloquist house it would definitely be different from everyone's else's house, my highschool sweetheart would visit my home when we first met she thought it was a world of make believe, full of talking dolls, puppets, magic 🪄 tricks, costumes, makeup, lights, microphones 🎤, mascot rabbit 🐰 suits, Santa Claus suits, ventriloquist characters,big sound speaker🔊,cameras 📸,copy machines

Folding chairs, 🎪 tents, sound effects, and so much more fun ventriloquist equipment. So remember being a Ventriloquist you are different and being different is being an original and not a copy, this school is not interested in creating copies. Being a novelty act is going to be an adventure this means you will have some mountains to 🪜 climb but don't give up that's why I am doing this class on novelty acts to inform you that as a ventriloquist you're not the same as the same old same old everyday song and dance performers so don't be 😯 surprised when someone can't pronounce the title of your art correctly VEN-TRIL-O-QUIST... enjoy your art as much as you can, stay busy in your art, stay in practice, stay in rehearsal, do your stage time as much as possible, keep creating, set goals for your Ventriloquist career and fulfill your goals no matter how long it takes, make a bucket list for your Ventriloquist career... your novelty act is yours and yours only, the most wonderful thing about being a Ventriloquist is that you own something on planet earth that no one can take away from you.. the art is a novelty act because the artists are original and not copies... novelty means different or unusual and that means not a everyday act, meaning that you're in a original artist category.

I remember entering school talent shows as a young child, many fun times performing at my school talent shows and not once did I meet another ventriloquist performing in the talent show most kids in the talent show were singers, dancers and maybe one or two magicians or poetry.. those talent shows were my training grounds for my Ventriloquist act, do I wish other kids were in the talent show with a ventriloquist act, I say yes because maybe the both of us could put some really good ventriloquism shows together, I always say two illusionist is better than one, meaning if the audience doesn't know that the volunteer you choose from the audience is your second ventriloquist it would really be a mind blowing performance for the audience..

don't be afraid of the word different because that word is the same as novelty and a novelty act is a original act, the Ventriloquist should always drive to succeed as a original artist in the art of ventriloquism. 

Many many years ago television was producing shows called variety shows on theses shows many novelty acts were booked so were many ventriloquist acts seen on television during the variety shows eras.

Let's keep in mind that ventriloquists came from the priesthood religious then returned as a entertainment art with vaudeville, vaudeville was full of novelty acts coming from the religious background as ventriloquist priesthood, magicians, mind-readers, gypsy, 🔮 fortunetellers, belly dancers, sword 🗡️eater, tap dancer, instrument player, animal tamer, these are just some of the novelty acts during ancient history times, some of those acts became entertainment instead of for religion.. today those acts would be placed in the novelty category.. vaudeville was the land of milk 🥛 and Honey 🍯 for the Ventriloquist

and most young ventriloquists such as Edgar Bergen dreamed of vaudeville.

Getting show bookings for your Ventriloquist act is not the only thing you need to do, you need to know what are you selling to your customers and clients... 

your Ventriloquist act is a ancient art that was once part of religion.. 

your Ventriloquist act is no longer part of religion so If you get some silly questions about our ancestors remember that you are an entertainer so do just that.. 

today your Ventriloquist act is for entertainment only so remember no crossing the line into reality..

What you're selling to your audience can become really really creepy even sometimes for you the artist...
