 In this illusion two different types of microphones are used. 
# 1. microphone with microphone stand

The Ventriloquist wear the clip on Microphone.... # 2 microphone. 

The # 1 microphone is for the Ventriloquist character to speak into.. make sure microphone # 1 is off, not working. 

Number # 2 microphone is on for Ventriloquist to speak for both voices, the Ventriloquist own voice and the Ventriloquist character voice. 

This microphone "TRICK" need not much practice because the illusion itself is a remarkable vision..the "trick" is very successful if the audience is not up close.
