What will help you entertain or perform is having written material. 

Content can be borrowed from books or library books or found online.. ripping pages out of joke books will help you with gathering content for your Ventriloquist act, reading poetry books to write your own lines will help with building up content material.. thinking 🤔  💡 of ideas will help create content.

POETRY: poetry can be used as material for your Ventriloquist act...I used comedy poetry for my Ventriloquist act it was a sure fire hit, the comedy poetry is where my Ventriloquist character say funny poems such as Ventriloquist character look at Ventriloquist and says rose's are red your breath can wake the dead, what did you eat at breakfast time it smells like it was still ALIVE!!... 

MAGIC TRICKS: one hand magic tricks can be used for your Ventriloquist act but remember to have your Ventriloquist character participate so that means you will control yourself Ventriloquist character with one hand and perform magic tricks with the other hand. 

DOUBLE TALK: double talk is when a Ventriloquist use two Ventriloquist puppets at the same time, the double talk is very interesting entertainment because the two dummies can argue with each other or they can perform a singing duet, and I remember many many years ago I added double talk YO MAMA JOKES yes two dummies "yo mama joke battle".. I created a dating game skit with double where I play MATCH MAKER with two Ventriloquist dummies. 

INTRODUCING DIFFERENT DUMMIES: 
when you use many different Ventriloquist characters it seems to keep the audience attention unless you have a super star Ventriloquist character like LESTER that the audience specifically came to see, intro of different characters add variety to your Ventriloquist act. 

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION: using audience members in your Ventriloquist act is a sure fire time filler for any Ventriloquist act... volunteer from the audience can also be you as your assistant because you only have two hands so you might need extra set of hands to help you with stage prop on stage. 

SING ALONG ARE TIME FILLERS: sing along are fun for the audience and Ventriloquist.. sing along should be done with popular songs that the audience members knows, this way everyone can participate.
