EDGAR BERGEN AND CHARLIE MCCARTHY SHORT FILMS 1930
Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy

Edgar Bergen himself said the movie company had him with Charlie McCarthy make about 12 vitaphone shorts.
Edgar Bergen was told by his show business manager not to make shorts, but Edgar Bergen secretly made shorts with out his show business manager/ agent knowledge.
Edgar Bergen made the shorts because he didn't think anyone would see them..but a lot of people did see and watch his short films.
Vitaphone
Warner Brothers movie industry were the production company of vitaphone short films.
What was shorts? They were like social media today but for vauldeville entertainers and performers.. vauldeville had declined in the entertainment industry, radio was rising and film was coming in so short films was another type of entertainment for people..on these short films Edgar Bergen was seen by audiences with very weak lip control but the Ventriloquist character was very strong with misdirection.. do you see it, take a look again, lip control is misdirection, the Ventriloquist character is misdirection.. Edgar Bergen is very intelligent, he use another misdirection to make up for another.
I own the vitaphone dvd collection, I have all these classic films of Edgar Bergen Short film I suggest that you watch these films wherever you can find them. in theses films you will see a Ventriloquism original artist at his best with creativity...in one film Charlie McCarthy is strung up by a rope the creative mindset will catch a audience member by surprise..my favorite is called 'NUT GUILTY' in this film you can see the authority figure guiding the audience in a playful way with his Ventriloquist character, nut guilty is a comfortable funny short film it makes you want to follow this authority figure that keeps his Ventriloquist character on a long string but knows when going too far has to bring in some string so the Ventriloquist character see the string being pulled in and the Ventriloquist character becomes in line with the authority figure..so as a audience member you feel safe to understand that it's just fun innocent entertainment... and I think that's what audience members seen with Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy short films.
Edgar Bergen himself said he made the movie shorts very quickly then went on a performing tour forgetting that he made the short films.
As you read here Edgar Bergen was a hungry Ventriloquist, hustling for a Ventriloquism career..12 vitaphone shorts then go on a performing tour that's what I call being hungry for ventriloquism, hungry for a show business career and you need to remember vaudeville has declined, the entertainment industry is growing so I don't think Edgar Bergen was a dummy I can see him taking every opportunity available...film---radio---theater--street performer---night clubs---print---these were some of the available entertainment work after vauldeville.
